This is the first commercial recording of a collection of wonderful and unique compositions by this great Norwegian composer.
Having spent most of his life helping others, he has never had the time to properly promote himself as a composer. These recordings are a loving step in that direction.

Bach’s sonatas and partitas are seminal works of the violin repertoire and they have been recorded many times before.
Ricardo Odriozola’s new recording is a result of nearly 30 years of experience of performing the music in Europe and North America and it offers a personal and respectful perspective on these works.

The album is, to a large extent, a documentation of those three years in the composer’s life , so the material is autobiographic. Do not read too much into it, though. Ideally, the music will appeal as pure music and, perhaps, prompt you to look into your own biography and find points of connection.
The programme is varied: tango, children’s pieces, pseudo-prog, a piano soliloquy and chamber music, all of it intentionally and inevitably written from the inner recesses of the heart and, equally intentionally (and necessarily), balanced by the head.
”Views From My Horse” is graced by outstanding contributions from several top musicians from the Bergen area.

We wish to share with you the exhilaration and wonderment of those three magical hours locked up in a studio with Jaxon.

The two composers represented on this CD, Leslie Hurwitz (b. 1928) and Pasquale Tassone (b. 1949) are enduring friendships originating from that year, and they have both written a number of works throughout the years for Ricardo.
There are pieces for violin and piano, solo violin and solo piano.
Although originating from only two composers, the range of expression is very wide, from the romantic to the avant-garde, from the contemplative to the extroverted, from the philosophical to music for immediate enjoyment.
This is, first and foremost, music of a very high quality, by turns delightful and challenging, always engaging and stimulating.

This album was recorded live on two separate concerts in 2001 and 2002. The performances have a dangerous edge to them, completely in keeping with the spirit of the composer. Both his early and mature styles are represented, with authoritative performances of the two duos for violin and piano and the hair-raising piano trio, as well as two important works for chamber orchestra: the Epilogue (written as a protest against the Berlin Wall) and the deeply charming Cassation.
Comprehensive booklet notes in English, French and German.
01-03 - Epilogue - for string orchestra op.26 (1961)
04-06 - Duo op.44C - for violin and piano (1973)

The three works on this CD are prime examples of the best in Norwegian chamber music. The stunning clarinet quintet is one of Ketil Hvoslef's finest chamber music pieces. The Epigrammes exhibit Bergh's characteristic juxtaposition of earnestness and wit, coupled with a solid craft. Kenneth Sivertsen's "Stengarden" (garden wall) is unique in all of quartet literature and it communicates directly with the listeners as if taking them into its confidence. A delightful CD of chamber music that is challenging yet readily accesible.

The three ensembles convened in Denmark in early 1998 for a series of concerts concluding with a recording of three exciting works by Mogens Christensen, Bernd Hänschke and Ricardo Odriozola. The rest of the album consists of works by the same composers performed by each of the three ensembles. The character of the music is wide-ranging. In the works for full ensemble, the expressionistic world of Bernt Hänschke, Odriozola's neo-minimalist workouts and Christensen's vivid soundscapes stand in contrast with one another. The smaller ensembles afford us a more intimate glance into the always expressive musical universe of these composers, by turns psychedelic, tender and brutal, making for a challenging and ultimately satisfying listening experience.
